Downtime During ‘Down’ Time

The term ‘downtime’ is used to refer to periods (haha) when a system is unavailable. Let’s be real, one of the most advanced systems ever, the human body becomes unavailable when you are down, a rather colloquial term used to refer to menstruation. Your body is craving iron when you’re on your period because you’re losing iron-rich blood. Iron helps carry oxygen through your body, which gives your body the energy it needs. This is why you tend to be more tired on your period.

Your period can be a great time for you to just take a pause, breathe and jump back into the madness of daily life. So, here are just some of the ways you can take some downtime during your time of the month.

  1. Get Some Rest

Spend some extra time in bed, snooze your alarm a few times. It is fine. You tend to get more tired when on your period, and that is the perfect excuse to sleep.

 

  1. Exercise

  1. Read/Binge-Watch

I know we’re swinging between staying in bed and moving but isn’t that exactly how we feel on our period? When you want to take a break, grab your favourite book or binge-watch all ten seasons of FRIENDS.  If you’re on the lookout for some book recommendations, we’ve got you covered.

 

  1. Pamper Yourself

Slap on a facemask, pull out some paints, your notebook, or a ukelele? Do your thing while your skin gets some love. Take a bubble bath or blow some bubbles. Sit and listen to the birds sing, or Ed Sheeran, just do the things that make you feel like your best, happiest self. Indulge in a massage or grab a girlfriend and head to your favourite salon for some pedicures. The idea is to take care of yourself in the best way you can.

 

  1. Stay Hydrated

This may seem unimportant, but it is not.. Keep a bottle next to you all day and keep sipping on water. You are losing liquids and your body is thirsty. Staying hydrated will also help relieve some of those dreaded cramps so…drink up, baby.

In essence, take your time, you deserve it.
