5 ways to spoil yourself this International Women’s Day WITHOUT spending too much money!
“You know that we are living in a material world”… Madonna, the Queen of Pop pretty much hit the nail on the head, and the very thought of any kind of ‘Day’, a birthday, Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Women’s Day, only elicits visions of elaborate and expensive gifts. Flowers, chocolates, romantic getaways, fancy meals, spa days and all manner of material things.
This International Women’s Day, embrace the theme of #BalanceForBetter and treat yourself, or the other special women in your life without breaking the bank. It might be hard to imagine giving a gift that is simultaneously meaningful, memorable and inexpensive, or even free, so we decided to curate a list of 4 ways to pamper yourself or any other superwoman you know, for almost no cost!
- Indulge in a home-spa
Light a few scented candles, play some soft music, slap on a face-mask, soak your feet in warm water, pick out your favourite shade of nail polish and give yourself a manicure. Do it all while sipping on some green tea, or your favourite wine for an added sense of the luxurious and truly special.
2. Set up a girlie movie marathon
Very few things can bring as much joy as spending an evening laughing carefree with your closest girlfriends. What better day to gather around a big-screen TV, set Netflix to every tear-jerking, roll-on-the-floor-laughing, swoon-worthy chick-flick around than International Women’s Day. Go old school with classics like Pretty Woman or When Harry Met Sally, and get in some extra giggles with The Princess Diaries. You can even break the rules and binge-watch Game of Thrones or Wonder Woman. Whatever you choose, it will make for a truly memorable evening of celebrating your favourite women with those who inspire us all!
3. Organise a potluck evening with your girlfriends
Spending Women’s Day or the day before it in a hot kitchen may not really seem like a celebration, but creating a dish for an old-fashioned pot-luck dinner can be pretty enjoyable.Take it up a notch and choose a theme for the evening. Maybe everyone needs to bring a dish from their favourite movie, book or TV show? Challenge yourself and your friends and see what everyone comes up with. You can even set a budget on the cost of ingredients and add in a small allowance for gifts too!
4. Take a day for yourself
Read that book or watch that movie that you have been wanting to for ages but just haven’t had the time or opportunity to do yet. Or simply sleep in, take a nap or soak in a nice hot bath with some of your favourite music. Relax, unwind and let the world carry on without you for a day. We guarantee you won’t miss it!
As an extra good-deed, the next time you visit your local coffee shop or restaurant. Leave some extra money to pay for a cup of coffee or a meal for the next lady who comes in. She will be pleasantly surprised at a gift from an anonymous stranger and may even be inspired to pay-it-forward herself!
These are just some of our ideas for a very special International Women’s Day. Comment below and tell us how you celebrated yourself and the women in your life this year.
