What You Can Do For World Menstrual Hygiene Day?

If only you we could snap period poverty away, we would, but we are not Thanos. So what can you do? To eradicate period poverty, to create a safer menstrual space for women across the world and to celebrate Menstrual Hygiene not just with awareness. So here’s a little something and a lot something that you can do to make this crazy place better for you, me and everyone to come –

  1. Spread Awareness!

This is the simplest, and easiest thing you can do. It doesn’t require much, just a few taps on your phone and you could enlighten at least a 100 people. Did you know that 80% of women in India cannot afford basic sanitary products? You probably did because we tell you all the time. But, remember your reaction when you found out. A lot of people have never experienced that reaction. TELL THEM.

  1. Donate

It is so easy to sit, right where you are right now, and donate. Just donate to a charity that works towards eradicating period poverty, even GiveHer5. I know you spend at least a 100 rupees on internet. Instead of buying that shirt you just liked or that blow dry cause your hair feels gross, give it to someone who needs it. You’re not just giving her menstrual protection, but security, safety, education, and it’s really a domino effect.

  1. Raise Funds

Ok, maybe you’re barely using the internet. That’s fine. Raise funds, you don’t have to be the one shelling out the money, but you can be the one raising money, gathering and directing it to a cause. Maybe put a percentage of your birthday money for a girl who is hiding in her home in the village while her friends are in school because she couldn’t afford a sanitary product.

  1. Volunteer

There are so many not for profit organisations in the menstrual space, like WASH, GiveHer5, period, etc. Find one that you like near you and lend a hand, many of these organisations travel to rural areas to educate and empower little girls, you can help them. To join the GiveHer5 volunteer programme you can email us at volunteer@giveher5.org

And lastly, just try. If you want to make a change, you will find a way to make it. And if you don’t care enough to make a change, there will be ways in front of you but you won’t do anything about it.
